Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you go. Can’t find the answers you’re looking for? Please chat to our team.
What are the must-see places on a first trip to Namibia?
A first journey usually includes Sossusvlei's dunes, the desert wildlife of Damaraland, the Skeleton Coast and either Etosha or a private reserve for game viewing. These regions are far apart and deliberately different. Sossusvlei is about scale and light, Damaraland about geology and desert-adapted wildlife, and the Skeleton Coast about isolation and atmosphere. Trying to see everything in a week leads to too much driving, so the strongest itineraries choose fewer places and give each one enough time.
Is Namibia better as a self-drive or a fly-in safari?
Self-driving offers independence and works well for confident travellers who enjoy long distances and changing landscapes. Roads are often gravel, fuel stops can be widely spaced and journey times should not be underestimated. A fly-in safari reduces travel time and provides extraordinary aerial views, especially over the Namib and Skeleton Coast. Many luxury journeys combine both approaches, using flights for remote regions and a private vehicle where the road itself adds to the experience.
When is the best time to visit Namibia?
May to October brings dry weather, cooler temperatures and strong wildlife viewing around water sources, especially in Etosha. Desert landscapes can be visited year-round, although summer temperatures are high and afternoon storms are possible. April and May often offer clear skies and refreshed scenery after the rains. Photographers may prefer different seasons depending on whether they want pale winter landscapes, dramatic clouds or the possibility of seasonal greenery and wildflowers.
Can I see desert-adapted elephants and rhinos in Namibia?
Yes. Damaraland and the Kunene region are known for free-ranging desert-adapted elephants and black rhinos that survive in exceptionally arid terrain. These animals are not separate species, but they have adapted their movements and behaviour to scarce water and food. Tracking is usually done with specialist guides who understand the animals' ranges and prioritise low-impact encounters. Sightings require patience and cannot be guaranteed, which makes the search part of the experience.
How many days do I need for Namibia?
Ten to fourteen nights is ideal for a first journey. Namibia's distances are large, and the landscapes deserve more than a brief stop between drives or flights. A well-paced itinerary might spend three nights around Sossusvlei, three in Damaraland and several more on the Skeleton Coast or in a wildlife reserve. Travellers planning a full self-drive circuit should allow two weeks or longer to avoid spending most of the holiday in transit.
